About Me

Hello! My name is Charlotte and I’ve just finished my BA in Classics and MA in Illustration and I am currently based in London. I hope you enjoy pursuing through the examples on this site.

I am mostly a self-taught artist. After finishing my BA in Classics, I started an MA in Illustration, which I have just completed, and I hope to eventually make a career out of something I have enjoyed and practised throughout my life! I’ve been thinking about selling prints and setting up a digital portfolio for a while now and starting this website marks my first baby steps at maybe reaching a wider audience.

Having grown up in North Yorkshire, a lot of my work is based around nature and I particularly enjoy painting birds. Despite not living directly by the sea however, I also have a particular fascination with The Big Blue. Another influence on my work, being a Classicist, is the Classical world and I have a few Classically-inspired projects in mind that should hopefully come to fruition soon.

In terms of media, I most often work in gouache and watercolor but I like to experiment and I often flitter between a variety of media and forms. Equally, my style is somewhat flexible, shifting around somewhere between fine art and illustration.

A frequent element in my art is the use of text, either through painting in the words myself or through sticking down words that I’d cut out from various magazines and pamphlets. I also have an interest in the physicality of art and the ability to hold it or interact with it. As a result, I’ve started hand-cutting some of my pieces, especially paintings of flowers, so you can hold them like the real objects. As well as this, I have plans to make different types of interactive, hand-made books in the near future.

That’s a little about me, if you have any other questions about my work, feel free to contact me!
